Nylon Doll Nativity

About ten years ago I made a nylon doll nativity that I re-crafted today. I made these dolls with the idea of putting them on a wreath. I thought these were so cute, that I suggested to my daughter that she make these wreaths for Christmas presents for her grandmothers and great grandmother.

The wreath pictured above is the one I made. The dolls pictured below are the ones my daughter made when she was in grade six. They are so adorable. She did make wreaths for the grandparents, however we received my grandmothers back when she passed away. I did not need two of these wreaths.
So I pulled the dolls off and glued them to a wood slice that I had hanging around.

Now these adorable dolls my daughter made are the centerpiece in my living room. They bring back memories of my granny, the treasured time my daughter and I had when these were created, and the reminder that Christmas should be centered around Christ, and His message of love for all.

Doctrinal Diamonds

Hello, and welcome to my blog. It seems like ages since I have been on here. At the end of summer I was called as the Relief Society President for my ward. For those who do not know what this is, I am called to serve as the female leader of my congregation. This is a call that is very demanding. With going back to work full time, and a few other things that have been added to my plate, my daily scripture reading has not been as enlightening as it has been in the past. I get more out of the scriptures when I write something about the thoughts and feelings that came to me as I read. I am organizing my time a little better now and getting back into the groove.
I love this quote from Neal A Maxwell expressing so beautifully that scriptures are doctrinal diamonds, that when read with the Spirit, will sparkle and illuminate the path we are to follow. I know that so often when I pray for direction, the answer comes through a scripture that plays back in my mind, even though I had not memorized it.

Neal A Maxwell says some other things about scriptures...

The holy scriptures represent mankind's spiritual memory. And when man's connection with scripture is severed, mortals are tragically deprived of an awareness of spiritual history, blinding the eyes of faith.

How can we truly understand who we are unless we know who we were and what we have the power to become? How can there be real identity without real history? How can one understand his tiny, individual plot without knowing, even a little, about Father's grand, galactic plans?

We possess these truths! Now they must come to possess us! We are to search them, to ponder them, to feel them, and to live by them!

I know that by searching them I have found greater meaning and purpose in my life, and by applying the doctrines contained in them I find greater success.

Mother Who Knows Survival Kit With Free Download

Hello! Welcome to my blog! My life has been super busy the last few months so my creative side has had take a little break. I made a gift like this quite a while ago, but I decided it needed a little tweaking along with some tags that can be downloaded. This is a Christian centered baby shower gift. The idea is inspired from a talk Julie B Beck gave a few years ago about the importance of Mother's who know who they are, who God is, and who know the importance of Motherhood.

Although the gift theme is inspired by this particular talk, I have used quotes from others that help and inspire mothers with this awesome responsibility of raising their little ones.

I am having issues with my Google Drive right now, so if you would like the pdf you can email me. I printed the tags on kraft card stock.
I cut out the quotes (on the first line of the border so it was a little smaller) and glued them on the back.

Here's what I put in the kit:

1. Great worth - craft jewels
2. Clothe... in righteousness - clothes
3. Don't Waste Energy - fluorescent light bulb
4. Cry For Help - tissue
5. Power to Heal - band aids
6. Atmosphere of learning - baby book

Here are pictures of some of the items with tags.

Happiness Is Homemade - Marriage Survival Kit

With wedding season well upon us I felt the need to get some creative juices flowing to make another survival kit. This idea is for personal use only. I have seen some of my other kit ideas made into scrapbook items for sale. If you are using this idea for purposes other than gifts the honorable thing would be to contact me for permission. It does take a lot of time to put these kits together and to find out by surprise that someone has been profiting off of work I have done is kind of a downer. Now that uncomfortable item of business is out of the way - let's get on to the fun!!

Check out other Survival Kits that I have made HERE.

This survival kit is an analogy on how to make a happy marriage baking style. Here is what I put in it:

1. Bowl
2. Sifter
3. Timer
4. Recipe Cards (not pictured)

 5. Wooden Spoons
6. Oven Mitt
7. Spray Mister
8. Measuring Spoons

I made up little rhymes to go on each one.

Here are marriage quotes to go with each one of the tags. I pasted them on to the back of the poem. These quotes are all from leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I haven't got the pdf file online yet - so you can email me for the files at suefergiebum@gmail.com

I put everything in the bowl, put a basket bag over it and added the tag (download it from above
Right click, copy, paste into publishing program and print)

This picture does not do this basket justice. It was a fabulous wedding shower gift.

Thanks for stopping by, and happy creating.

Sunday Quotes

Hello and welcome to my blog! I wanted to share a couple of quotes. I love this quote by Donald L Hallstrom (Turn to the Lord, April 2010) , "Never let an earthly circumstance disable you spiritually".  It reminds me of another quote that I like "Just because it is a bad day doesn't mean it is a bad life". We all have challenges. Like it or not, those challenges have the ability to help us gain a vast amount of knowledge and wisdom. Positive attitudes through negative experiences will help us grow. Negative attitudes through negative experiences will allow those challenges to defeat us. Which brings me to the next quote by Richard G. Scott from his talk
"Finding Joy in Life" April 1996...

"No matter how difficult something you or a loved one faces, it should not take over your life and be the center of all your interest. Challenges are growth experiences, temporary scenes to be played out on the background of a pleasant life. Don't become so absorbed in a single event that you can't think of anything else or care for yourself or for those who depend upon you. Remember, much like the mending of the body, the healing of some spiritual and emotional challenges takes time."

Keep your chin up this week, no matter what challenges come your way!!

Retirement Survival Kit

Hello! Welcome to my blog! It is has been an exciting year at my house. I started a new career (hence the fewer posts I have been able to do) while my husband retired from his career. Due to my love of making survival kits - a retirement one was inevitable. Here is what I put in it:

1. Don't Waste All Your Days - Item that went with tag: Waste Basket
2. Old Wild and Free as a Bird - Item that went with tag: Bird Feeder
3. No More Rough Work Days - Item that went with tag: Sanding Blocks
4. Retirement is Not a Time for Sleep -Item that went with tag: Sleeping Mask
5. Take a Load off Your Feet - Item that went with tag: Socks
6. You Worked to Make Your Money, Now Make Your Money Stretch: Bungey Cord
7. Enjoy Being Put Out to Pasture - grass seed
8. The Daily Grind of Hard Work Has Left You Polished - Shoe Polish

You can get the PDF for the tags HERE

Print out the tags, trim, punch holes in corner, use twine/ribbon to tie to items. I put all the items in the waste basket, added some tissue, tied the tag to the front and it was finished! Have fun and get creative!! I would love to hear the different items and/or sayings you come up with!!

Mom - There is Gnomebody Like You

Hello, welcome to my blog! Here is the gift I made my mom's this year. I usually make crafts that take a bit of time to put together, but this year I didn't have time with my new career SO this is Mother's Day crafting simplified. I purchased a cute little planter. I found some little gnomes that attach to flower pots. Then I made the sign to go with the gnome and there you have it a quick gift with a little  bit of crafty tweaking.
Here is the tag below. Right click, copy, paste to your favorite publishing program, size to your liking and print. Glue it on a skewer and you are good to go!

Happy Mother's Day everyone! Thanks for stopping by!

St. Patrick's Day DIY Custom Plates

Hello! Welcome to my blog. My timing is really off for this post to be helpful for St. Patrick's Day this year, BUT I wanted to post this anyway. I love the custom plates I had made in the past for Halloween and Valentine's Day and wanted to make the plates for other holidays too, so here is my version of St. Patrick's Day. I made these plates by printing on clear contact paper, attaching the contact paper to a glass plate, and then placing that plate on a charger. Check out my Halloween plate post for the tutorial...(click on pic)

I made some word art for one of the plate designs. If you are using words, remember to flip them as the contact paper goes on the bottom of the plate.

Here is the word art. Right click, save and paste to your favorite publishing program. Adjust size.

The plates that work out the best are the more simplified. I don't know if you noticed in the above picture that the words smudged a bit. The clover image from Graphics Fairy worked out lovely. I grabbed the frame from there as well.

Check out the Valentine plate post to see how I interchange the plates from season to season.

Woodland Valentine Cards

I wanted to make some unique cards to give out at school on Valentine's Day. I love this free Woodland Critter file I found via Pinterest called In The Woods by Harper Finch - check out website...

One little critter (the squirrel) on here was found on this website.
After printing the images on card stock and cutting them out, I inked around the edges.
Thank you for stopping by! Happy Valentine's Day!!

Move Forward Quote

This quote is from a talk titled "You Can Do it Now!" by Dieter F. Uchtdorf . It is important to not think we have failed because some areas in our lives are not perfect. Life is full of challenges but through those challenges we grow, even though we may stumble. This quote relates to one of my favorite analogies of getting bucked off a horse. What do you do?  Get up, shake off the dust and then, get back up on that horse again. Your destiny is not determined by the hurdles, the bumps in the road or the wild ride you may be on - you determine your destiny through your determination to not let those challenges stop you in your tracks. RISE UP, DUST YOURSELF OFF AND MOVE FORWARD!

Valentine Paper Candy Bouquet

Hello! Welcome to my blog!
I made these bouquets for a surprise Valentine that I left at the recipients door. These are paper hearts with conversation hearts inside of them.

I printed the hearts out on different colored cardstock. I used a hot glue to glue the hearts together making a pocket so I could add a few candies to each one, and then gluing the bottom shut after inserting a skewer.

For the base I used a large soup tin, put plaster in the bottom for weight, and glued a styrofoam ball in the bottom to insert the heart skewers. I filled the can with shredded paper.

The paper hearts I made had a spiritual message on the backside that are below if you would like to used them.
