Sewing Table Makeover

Hello! Welcome to Creative "Try"als. Painting furniture is definitely foreign territory for me. I saw a table with a ruler painted on it on Pinterest and thought I would give it a try.

I have a sewing table that my husband made me 17 years ago that was plain pine. I thought it would be a good candidate for a painting experiment. I didn't take a picture of the table before the paint job (oops). I decided to also try chalk paint so I could strike two items off my Pinterest "to do" list. I made the chalk paint using Plaster of Paris with a recipe from the Elizabeth and Company blog -

After painting the table with two coats of paint - I added the ruler. My husband suggested I used a Sharpie for the ruler lines - although I would paint it next time - because when I distressed it later the black spread. I stenciled the numbers on with paint. I distressed the ruler using fine sand paper. I did wax the top of the table with Annie Sloan clear wax.

This is the ruler art I used as a guide. I copied it and re-sized it to fit a full page. I then used carbon paper, a ruler and the blunt end of a fine paint brush to transfer the lines on the table top.

I am happy how this table turned out. My husband even said we should go into business together - he can build the tables and I can make them. Although I declined his offer - I am looking around the house for the next item I can paint!

Busy Mom Survival Kit - Baby Shower Gift Idea

Happy Friday! Welcome to my blog!! Here is my latest baby shower gift basket. The stuff in the basket is geared more towards the mom, although the advice on the tags will definitely help the baby.  I suggest this package not be gifted to a new mom who needs baby stuff. Here is what I put in the kit:

1. WATER - Saying: Water cannot be drawn from an empty well.
2. JAM - Saying - Don't jam every minute with busy-ness.
3. ROSE AIR FRESHENER - Saying - Learn to smell the roses.

4. CHEERIOS - Saying: Be of good cheerios
5. KNEE PADS - Saying: When life is too hard to stand - kneel.
6. GLASSES - Saying: Focus on your children.

7. SNICKERS - Saying: Learn to laugh.
8. MENTOS - Saying: The joy of motherhood comes in momints.

Here are the tags I used below. I made both a male and female package so there are blue and pink tags. I added an elephant and cut out some clouds to put on the tags.

I put all of the items with their corresponding tags in my favorite bag to make - A BOX BAG -
tied it up with a ribbon and attached the survival kit tag. This is a different but meaningful gift to give those busy moms!

No Remedy for Love Wedding Card

Hello! Welcome to my blog! Tis the season of weddings.  My last two posts were on a couple of wedding gift ideas. Today I am posting a wedding card. I love this quote by Henry David Thoreau -

"There is no remedy for love than to love more"

and I thought it would make a sweet wedding card.

I got the adorable clip art HERE on the Vector Graphics Blog. The download is free.

I printed out the clip art and adhered it to the front of the card with pop dots. I added a sparkly heart.
Below are the graphics you can print if you would like to make the card. Right click on image,
copy, paste on favorite computer program. Re-size as desired.  Print.

How to Cover an Album the Easy Way

Hello, happy Wednesday!! I am all for simplifying ways of doing things. I had seen binder slip covers before and thought I would give it a try. I am thinking a lot of my books are going to get covered now as this is a simple way to cover book. Here is what I did....

I covered this album in drop cloth material. This particular album was a wedding album so I dressed it up with an embellishment printed on drop cloth, stuffed a bit, and sewed on the fabric cover. I added this on after I sewed the cover to measure exactly where I wanted it. This idea was inspired by this project - CLICK HERE.
